Moving to Chapel Hill for his internship and then General Surgery residency, Dr. Haas attended lectures at Duke University. During his training, there was intense investigation and studies in blood flow of tissues and improving circulation. During his Fellowship in Plastic Surgery at Chapel Hill there was particular emphasis on Hand Surgery and Breast Reconstruction, as well as Burn and Skin Cancer reconstruction. Studies in microcirculation and wound care were also performed, and patients in intensive care were studied for healing problems. At the Charlotte campus, there was intensive trauma, aesthetic and reconstructive training. There were no patient fees associated with aesthetic cases performed by the Plastic Surgery Fellow - making for an abundance of experience. Today Dr. Haas’ practice encompasses all aspects of aesthetic and reconstructive surgery from head to toe. He continues to provide lectures to professionals about many aspects of medicine. Both medical and nursing students have obtained training in his clinics. He received the prestigious Medical Communicator of the Year award from the Florida Medical Association for his many articles on broad medical topics written as a newspaper column writer. Hobbies include fine metal work, woodwork and welding. He is an amateur photographer who enjoys photographing landscapes and especially likes wildlife photography. Some of his favorite photos are on display in his office. Dr. Haas and his wife Linda enjoy the arts and cultural activities available in Sarasota and Venice. “We already live in paradise, why go elsewhere?” Dr. Haas is very involved in his patients' care. When his patients have a problem, Dr. Haas takes pride in being available to provide their care.
